Group Taxation team provides a consultancy advice for assets and global operations. From investigating and scoping divestment plans to understanding key business objectives and commercial drivers, we work closely with all areas of the business to rationalise portfolios, deliver structuring options, participate in due diligence preparation and draft sale and purchase agreements.

We aim to balance the financial and commercial risks across our assets and activities, maximise profits, optimise post-tax value from existing assets and carry out divestment and de-merger processes.

Indirect Tax Advisor
This position is reporting to Indirect Tax Lead, Asia-Pacific.

Facility Management Company Manager

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities:

- Manage the provision of quality and timely indirect tax advice to senior management and the business sectors, in respect of all business transactions and projects
- Review of the indirect tax returns (service tax) to ensure proper completion and submission of returns
- Ensure compliance with existing indirect tax legislation and statutory obligations by regularly liaising with relevant operating company unit staff; deliver global indirect tax standard processes and objectives for Shell Malaysia, in consultation with regional/global indirect tax staff
- Represent Shell effectively at Customs and Industry levels in lobbying legislative and tax policy changes; Manage all customs queries, audits, disputes, challenges and other interaction with the Customs Office
- Maintain and enhance financial controls over indirect taxation matters, ensure effective indirect tax controls are maintained in accordance with SOX-based control measures as well as global indirect tax management and controls framework
- Stimulate and develop indirect tax awareness and training to businesses via presentations, awareness programmes and round table discussions
- If Good & Services Tax (GST) legislation is introduced in Malaysia, oversee the introduction of GST in Shell Malaysia to ensure compliance and best practices are implemented

Requirements:

- A minimum Bachelor Degree qualification in Accounting, and a member of a recognised accounting or other relevant professional body
- Minimum 8 years of relevant working experience, preferably with at least 5 years’ in a consultancy/advisory capacity either in the public or private sector
- Knowledge/experience of Malaysian indirect tax law and practice, and other relevant legislation including updated information on the proposed Goods & Services Tax (GST) legislation
- Good negotiation skills and effective at influencing key stakeholders (both internal and external), including Customs and other authorities on the implementation and enforcement of indirect tax for Shell Malaysia
- Ability to work effectively as a team player and with limited supervision
- A valid visa or authorisation to work in Malaysia is required for this position
